Increase in global temperatures have led to the melting of glaciers and a rise in the sea level. Increased temperatures will lead to higher evaporation rates which will influence the water cycle accordingly, causing wet areas/regions to get more rain and drier areas will face droughts leading to frequent extreme weather events. This will further lead to alterations in the natural resource base (forests/biodiversity, agriculture, water resources) and will consequently affect people’s livelihoods. Human health will also be impacted with higher temperatures; with children, the elderly and marginalised communities are likely to be more vulnerable.

While having said that, recent events in Los Angeles — The Palisades Fire, the largest of six active blazes in the Los Angeles region — have killed at least 24 people and burned more than 40,000 acres — an area bigger than San Francisco — according to Cal Fire, with flames claiming more than 12,300 structures and displacing tens of thousands. This also is an indication that with the climate threat that we face — it is only a matter of time before it won’t have any marginalisation barriers — geographic or economic — till everyone on planet Earth gets affected
